Wake of the Lorelei Lee

So, I didn't notice a thread for this yet, but Lorelei Lee is out, and as my usual Bloody Jack routine, I read it all the day I got it in the mail.

So, what did everyone think?

(Here be spoilers. Ye be warned.)

I got an ARC in July (signed, shipped all the way to New Zealand and everything) and devoured the entire thing within a day or so. I've been re-reading it on my way to and from work this past week.

So many thoughts that I'm too lazy to type them out, so I've copy/pasted a few things from a post on The Bloody Jack Boards and added a few things I missed when I shared my garbled thoughts there.

I absolutely LOVED this book. So many things that had me grinning maniacally to myself. I may or may not have made a few noises that caused the boyfriend to give me some strange looks while I was reading at his place.

Irish boys make me happy. Especially one Arthur McBride. The bickering with Jaimy was rather lovely too.

I loved the shantyman. As someone who grew up with a lot of these songs, I especially loved the music, but I also adored his character, and his relationship with the captain.

Cameos from Richard Allen and Captain Hudson made me happy.

No conversation with Clarissa! We still haven't had a scene with the two of them since Bloodhound, and I'd really love to see how their dynamic works now. Likewise with a few of the other Lawson Peabody girls.

Joseph Jared. God I love that man. And the prospect of him in the next book also makes me highly joyful.

What else?

Oh, yes. Jacky and Higgins. I quite liked that. Very clever, and rather hilarious.

Pissed Jaimy is also rather hot.

Come to think of it, we did have an awful lot of attractive males in this one, didn't we? What with Jaimy, Randall, Richard Allen, those lovely Irish boys, and Captain (I love that he made Captain) Joseph Jared.

God, the Arthur/Jaimy bickering almost killed me. XD

I will agree 110% that pissed Jaimy is incredibly hot.

I was happy Joseph was made captain, but I was happier about Jaimy delivering a flaming "Fuck You!" to the Royal Navy and mutinying and then becoming a PIRATE CAPTAIN, of all things. I never saw that coming, and it was epic.

Yes, I am totally a Jaimy fangirl, but at least in this book it was justified. XP

This was indeed a very good book for Jaimy fangirling. He's properly grown up now, and has lost a bit of his high class nob-ness. And, as you said, FUCK YEAH PIRATE CAPTAIN.

And Arthur's joke... Bahaha. Poor Jaimy.

I'm rather looking forward to the prospect of more Jaimy/Arthur/Joseph action in the next book. Being the huge Joseph fan that I am.

I cannot wait for the next book, because the prospect of Jaimy, Jacky, and Joseph having pirate hijinks in the South China seas sounds epic.

Can you imagine Davy and Tink back in Boston reading the headlines about how Jacky and Jaimy became pirates and both of them going "WHY DO THEY GET TO HAVE ALL THE FUN?!"

On another note, I nearly cried at Jacky getting her hair shaved off...AGAIN. Is that girl ever going to get to grow her hair out? Though having the Chinese pirate get a cameo was pretty cool, though.
